There are few businesses in the world where the quieter it is the more money they are making. Elixir Mind Body Massage in Lodo is one of them. Despite providing what many call a 'luxury service' they're hiring, expanding and growing. Owner Sandy Stroehmann will tell you it all comes down to customer service. When she noticed the economy heading south last fall she told her staff to redouble their efforts. She started her 'urban massage center' by putting massage chairs outside their Wazee St. offices and offering a monthly club discount including massages and perks for return clients. "I would rather have a massage than a good dinner once a week," said Denver florist Guenther Vogt, he says his massages help him deal with the stress of business. Sandy's business revolves around the employees as much as it does the customers. Because of the soft job market she can be pickier about who she hires. "We are genuinely concerned" with each client explained Jessica, massage therapist, and the service shows. Sandy reports more people signing up for memberships at about $60 for one massage a month. Chair massages at $1/minute are doing well too. "It's not really a luxury," explained Vogt. "It's a necessity these days"

Affordability, a comfy setting, good use of pressure, and customizable options. We found all four of these elements at Elixir, an unassuming massage-focused spa in LoDo.
